Shop sign, vitreous enamel

1962.41 c. 1938 Vitreous enamel on steel 910 × 610 mm

Enamel fired onto steel, which is why the colour is as strong as the day it went up and why the two chips have rusted through. Made in Birmingham to an order sent from Kingston.

Signs like this hung on every corner shop on the island. Almost none were kept, because a sign is not a thing anyone thinks to keep.
